5 Ways to Keep Your Team Connected Virtually

Last week we talked about the importance of community in creating purpose and joy. Connection is vital to our happiness as human (read: social) beings, especially in times that can feel daunting (read: a pandemic), and also makes us more motivated and productive…. Still, sometimes corporate team building elicits an internal eye roll (think: The Office and Michael Scott’s sometimes-cringeworthy – yet hilarious – antics).

Did you know a staggering 70% of U.S. employees don’t feel engaged in their workplace?! If you’re in an office of 30 people, that means 21 of those people are not engaged. Feeling engaged in the workplace is the #1 predictor of employee retention and satisfaction; employees who are highly engaged are 87% less likely to leave their company. Corporate team building “builds trust, mitigates conflict, encourages communication, and increases collaboration... means more engaged employees, which is good for company culture and boosting the bottom line. It can also be adventurous and enjoyable if you do it with a little pizzazz.” (Cue: Drunk Yoga!)

5 remote team-building activities to boost employee connection, satisfaction, and engagement:

  1. Set up a “water cooler,” casual chat on your team’s Slack channel or G-Chat to keep the office banter going outside of the physical office.

  2. Virtual Happy Hour: can be a great way to maintain some feeling of normalcy in this disconcerting time. And hey, maybe that remote happy hour even leads into...

  3. Virtual Drunk Yoga! Moving together can be way more fun with someone else on the other line because you get to laugh about it together and hold each other accountable! Maybe you can even do it on your roof or backyard for some added Vitamin D :)

  4. (Or, if you’re more of a coffee person…) Virtual Coffee Yoga: a great way to start off the morning with three energizers: coffee, movement, and people! Moving in the morning is also a great way to get your mind flowing and focused, and you get double the feel good chemicals from moving + connecting :)

  5. Share quarantine recipes to build some camaraderie amongst your WFH staff. Who doesn’t love a good recipe-share?

And hey, if neither cooking nor Slack suit your fancy, or even if yoga isn’t your thing, you can also try:

    1. Pinot & Pilates,

    2. Connect n’ Stretch (…Less yoga, more stretching, same fun!)

    3. Espresso Yo-Self (Express yoga or stretch class with coffee in-hand + extra interactive games for maximum laughter!)

    4. Shake Your Ass-ana (Cardio Dance meets Drunk Yoga®)

If you’re looking to spice up your corporate wellness game with some interactive, virtual team building activities, our team is more than happy to support you!
