Drunk on Community with RUNSTREET
By Marnie Kunz
Drunk Yoga is about more than yoga and wine, it's about community. Where would we be without our toasting partners? And what better way to strengthen community than volunteering. If you'd like to get drunk on community with some NYC volunteer work, here are some ways to get involved:
New York Cares offers countless ways to connect with your community - from soup kitchens to animal rescue organizations, there are volunteer opportunities to suit every interest. New York Cares offers a hub connecting volunteers to nonprofits. New York Cares features over 1,600 service opportunities a month, including one-time projects and ongoing opportunities. Sign up on their website to get started.
Below is a list of non-profits my community, Runstreet, has directly worked with and supported in NYC. These are some of our favorite NYC non-profits, from LGBTQ organizations to helping combat homelessness and animal welfare.
Callen-Lorde provides low-cost and no fee health care services to the NYC LGBTQ community. The Chelsea-based organization includes an extensive community health center and services and offers support and care to the LGBTQ community regardless of ability to pay and free of judgment.
Back on My Feet NYC helps combat homelessness using the power of running and job training. Through it's strong community of runners and volunteers, Back on My feet works with people living in transitional living facilities to build strength, community, and progress using the power of running.
Second Chance Rescue NYC offers animal rescue, veterinary services, foster care and adoptions to New York City's sizable pet population in need of homes. The organization works to reduce animal overpopulation in shelters and rescue and rehabilitate critically injured and neglected animals and connect the community to services that enable animals to remain in their homes. Check out our Runstreet Dog Art Run photos for more on Second Chance Rescue NYC.
What are some of your favorite NYC nonprofits? How do you give back to the NYC community?
