5 Fashion Tips for EveryBODY
Hi everyone! It’s Angelica. I’m a New York based yoga/meditation instructor who's been on the mat for around 8 years. For as long as I’ve been practicing (and in my past dancing) I’ve often been on the hunt to find clothes for my body. Since I’m 6’2”, a US18 dress size and a US14 women’s shoe size I’m no stranger to DIGGING to find clothes. Over the years, as I’ve tried to find clothes, I’ve learned a few lessons that I’d like to share with you. That way your journey to finding fabulous fits can be a little less stressful than mine was.
1. Fit Over Size
The first tip is going to be the most difficult for most of us. Shift your focus from the size to the fit! As hard as it is, if you haven’t started this process already you’ll find a lot more clothing options when you do. Sometimes we get so caught up in what size we’re wearing that we’ll wear something that doesn’t fit just because it’s a certain size. So please, start the practice of focusing on the fit of your clothes over the size.
2. Comfort Always Wins
There is a famous phrase “Beauty Is Pain”. To be honest, when it comes to fashion, it’s best to be comfortable. When you choose comfort, you’re not focusing on how uncomfortable you feel so you can let your personality shine. Now if you’re taking a photo and let’s say you’re wearing some shoes that aren’t the most comfortable then do what you want, but in terms of all day wear choose comfort. Your body will thank you!
3. Look For Influencers That Look Like You
Fortunately in this digital age we have better chances of finding people that look like us. With that we can see how a particular outfit looks on them and see whether or not we’d like to try out a similar look. If you’re browsing Instagram check to see if a person you’ve gravitated towards has a YouTube channel. That way you might be exposed to where and how they search for clothes along with a possible try-on haul video to see how the clothes they try moves and fits them. They might even mention the size they purchased which could help you find the right fit. Best of all, if it’s a sponsored post/video they might even have a code so you can save some cash!
4. Try Different Aesthetics
Lately, we’re beginning to see a wider variety of clothing options being offered for a wider variety of bodies. In years past we may have thought that only certain aesthetics were meant for specific body types. Currently, as more options are being offered, it’s prime time to try out something new. Referring back to tip 3, finding a(n) influencer(s) that look like you or resemble you figure can help you step into a new aesthetic. Who knows what you may find out about yourself. You might even find out that the color you thought wasn’t your color IS!
5. Wear What Makes You Feel Good
Even when you’re trying new things, what matters most is that you feel good. A piece that makes me feel good is Drunk Yoga’s Lift Your Spirit(s) Flowy Tank. This tank is my favorite of the merch options because it serves as a great reminder for us to lift our own spirits. Sometimes we can find ourselves in a mental fog, so to have something we can wear to boost our mood is always a fashionable choice!
Cheers,
Angelica
