WYA? Reassessing Your Resolutions

WYA? Reassessing Your Resolutions

by Julie Weinstock

New Year’s resolution or not, many of us began 2019 with some serious goals. I for one, started the year with the very idea that we can speak what we want into existence. (Thank you fellow Drunk Yogis for inspiring me on that front) However just like any New Year’s resolutioner, there came a time in the year when I started to reevaluate my goals and what I want for myself and my future.

I’m here to tell you that if you’re doing that same thing, it is NOT something to be frowned upon. In fact, I commend you for taking a step back and observing where you are and what you want. Especially with the help of social media, we are repeatedly shown that any progress or success must be linear. We “have to” go from point A to point B. I’m here to tell you that a zig-zag roller coaster of events doesn’t make you any less successful. If you’re considering the platform 9 ¾ of life, I say: go for it.

In other words, don’t be afraid to approach things differently. Reframe your goals how you see fit. Don’t shame yourself if what you want has changed. Instead, I dare you to check in with yourself. Take tonight to write out what you want for yourself within the next few months and then what you want for yourself within the year. If what you want now completely aligns with what you wanted in January, keep pushing. Do NOT give up, despite all the twists and turns life has thrown your way.

However, if you have taken a step back and realized that what you wanted back then might not be what you need right now, don’t fall into habit. Don’t settle. The recent ups and downs in my life were actually the biggest source of motivation for me to leave what’s familiar. So I’ll be the first one to tell you I know it isn’t easy. However, I’ll say this: the more I’ve let go of what’s been comfortable, the more I’ve felt alive. It’s scary. Yes. Do it anyway.

2019 is chock-full of potential and I’m excited to see what it will bring all of us. However, I’m way more excited to see what we’ll bring 2019  ;)

Even if we have to hold on to the handle bars, we only get braver with each roller coaster. Cheers to the ride ahead <3
